STATEMENT+BIO

At the heart of everything I do is the idea of memory as a living archive. I am interested in what we carry with us when we move from one place to another, our stories, our traditions, ancestral knowledge, and ways of seeing the world. Through my art, curatorial work, and community projects, I create spaces where those memories can connect people, places and the territory.

Paola Ward is a multidisciplinary visual artist and researcher born in Colombia whose work explores the intersection of memory and territory as a living archive, and migration as a visual and narrative resource for creating new worlds. Currently her main focus of study is Art, ecology and activism, and how the diasporas inhabit the territory.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art Studio from the City University of New York (CUNY), Hunter College, currently she is finishing a MA in Art administration and curatorial studies at SUU.

She is a curator and interdisciplinary storyteller whose practice brings together community-based research, printmaking, and decolonial aesthetics. Her work is grounded in the belief that creative spaces can function as sites of memory, dialogue, and cultural recovery.

She currently lives in Austin, Texas, where she also works as a muralist and is part of the a project Art for All at the city’s Central Library. She is also co-founder and creative director of the art collective Lengua de Tigre ATX.

She had exhibited in New York City, Mexico city and Austin Texas.
